From the center of the earth on latitude 4° S and 12°N and longitude 4°W 0°E, Ghana is the West African country which also serves as a gateway to other West African countries.
Ghana shares the borders between Burkina Faso on the north, Ivory Coast to west, Togo to the east and the Gulf of Guinea or the Atlantic Ocean along the south.
Ghana which is a republican country gained its independence from the British on March 6th, 1957, therefore making its official language English. Aside, there are more than 20 other recognized languages with ”Twi” spreading across.
Ghana has a profuse forest for many and various animal life. It is loaded with great things to experience like scenic shorelines/beaches, historic sites and museums, amusement parks, just mention few.
Ghana has numerous ethnic groups with each having rich beautiful and dynamic cultures. Backpackers visits day in and out for the beautiful sight seeings, festivals, delicious Ghanaian dishes, heritage and what have you for vacation and adventure.
In terms of cuisines, Ghana has diverse and assorted meals coming from the various ethnic groups from soups to stews with varied seafoods and most Ghanaian soups are prepared with vegetables, meat, poultry or fish. Fish is important in the Ghanaian diet with tilapia, roasted and fried whitebait, smoked fish and crayfish all being common components of Ghanaian dishes.
Banku is a common Ghanaian starchy food made from corn dough usually accompanied by some fried fish or grilled tilapia and a very spicy red and green chillies garnished with onions and tomatoes. Banku and tilapia is a combo served in most Ghanaian restaurants.
Fufu served with that goat meat light soup is the that mouth-watering food first timers in Ghana would love to enjoy not leaving the popular Ghana jollof.
Always remember that aside the conducive environment, the lovely and friendly Ghanaian people are ready to make your visit a memorable one and a sense of feeling at home.
