Tourist visas are issued to foreign nationals who wish to vacation in India. Tourist visas may be granted for a period over six months with the provision that longest period of stay in India does not exceed six months. A person on a tourist visa should keep a minimum gap of two months between two consecutive visits to the country.
What are the Indian tourist visa requirements?
- A duly filled in and signed visa application form
- 2 recent passport-size photographs
- A valid passport
- Booking of an airline return ticket in the name of the applicant
- Latest statement of the bank account of the applicant
- Vaccination Certificate for Yellow Fever
- All the original documents should be presented for verification. Photocopies of the documents should be attached with the visa application form.
- While the applications will also be received from friends/relatives/colleagues of the applicants, the applicants themselves will need to come to the High Commission, if considered necessary, for further clarifications.
How to apply for the tourist visa online
The tourist visa for India has two types which comprises of the online (e-visa ) application and the paper application. But this is the application guide
- online (e-visa )
Instructions
- The applicant will log on to the official website of the Bureau of Immigration under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Fill and complete the forms. Here the applicant will provide his personal information with passport details and purpose of their visit.
- Upload a passport sized photograph and the scanned documents.
- Pay the applicable visa fee. The applicant will be required the pay the amount using a visa debit card.
- The applicant will then submit the application and wait for the response in their email.
Generally the application should be processed and the e-visa sent to the applicant in their email in few days.
The e-visa is issued on the categories of single entry, multiple entry and duration from 30 days to 5 years of issue.
- Paper Application
Paper applications are submitted manually at the consular section of the Embassy of the Republic of India in the applicant’s home country. The printed form should be submitted physically in the High Commission on the next day or subsequent days along with applicant’s Passport, additional photographs and other documentations required for the type of visa applying for, and any other relevant supporting documents.
The fees, in full, must be paid by applicants at the time of submission of the application form and passport at the High Commission. Visa fees, once paid, will not be refunded.
The visa application will further be processed by the High Commission officials and visa will be granted/refused subject to necessary clearances from the Indian authorities concerned. In certain cases, the High Commission will require the applicants to personally come to the High Commission to submit the application / clarify the data filled-in on the online application registration form.
