The British Airways will be terminating 10,300 more short haul flights due to mishaps in planned flights between August and October.
This newest news was made known that, nearly 30,000 flights will have been removed from BA’s schedule between April and October. The cancellations affected London Heathrow, Gatwick and City Airports.
The industry has struggled with staff shortages because of spikes in demands after the COVID restrictions. The aviation industry continues to be bedeviled with many unbearable challenges. The BA Britishairways.com explained and assured customers that, they are fully aware of the problems and are prepared and completely focused to resolve the situation permanently.
The editor of the news portal, Which? Travel, said that, the latest cancellations will come to an end in no time. Airport slots gives airlines the authorization to take off and land on specific time frames. Usually, the carriers would risk losing the slots and thus, taking a hit to their business if the flight gets cancelled.
Ryan Air stressed in a statement that it was against amnesty if they put the blame on other airlines for the situation they found themselves in. He continued by saying that, they do not support the latest waiver regulation by the UK government which has been handed out for the benefit of airlines who failed to adequately prepare the return of travels post COVID.
He then cautioned that, the slot waivers will lead to fewer flights and reduce connectivity which will definitely harm competition. It will also lead to higher fares for low class customers. He also enumerated that, operating the airlines with few staff to man to airlines are unachievable.
Also, the new flexibility made available to them by amnesty was to further reduce the schedule and consolidate some of the quieter services so that, as many of their holiday flights as possible. While a large part of the flights was not affected and most customers would be able to travel as planned, we don’t underestimate the impact the cancellation would have. But we are doing our outmost best to bring everything on track having the passengers in mind.
The advance notice gives passengers the opportunity to re-book or ask for a refund. This will reduce last minute disruptions over the coming month. Also, hundreds of passengers’ scheduled plans sadly, will be disrupted. The British Airways hopes that, the recent wave of summer cancellations will be last, because plans have been put in place to permanently curtail this phenomenon. It was made known that, majority of services will go on as planned.
The return of international flights has not been without difficulties. This is because, staff shortages are persistent while passenger numbers keep soaring. The announcement made today is the latest sign of that, some airlines including EasyJet, have had to scale back their plans thinking they would meet a large part of their target. Not knowing that, they would be hit with cancellations and staff shortages.
British Airways is not the sole airline to be forced to cancel flights over busy summer period amid industry wide uncertainties. However, it is a well-known fact that Easyjet has been forced to cancel about 10,000 flights just between July and September. This was done to vouchsafe the effects the effects of shortages of staff.
The aviation industry must bounce back from the pandemic before it finally grounds to a sudden halt. Now that passengers are assured of their flights as it were before, airlines are having problems with hiring staff again. The assigned Minister told the airlines to review their plans after the travel chaos in May.
The British Airways explained that, this would help provide certainty to customers. Which Travel, has made it known that, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) being unable to tell passengers of their right to compensation was unforgivable. Passengers were to be rerouted at the early stages but this was not done. Hence, when all these rules are followed by the airlines, it will curtail all uncertainties and pave way for a prosperous year for the airline industry.
