Foreign national planning to visit Mexico for all tour related purposes must meet the Mexican visa requirements before boarding that flight to embark on the tour journey.

United Mexican States which is the official name of Mexico is the most populous Spanish speaking country in the southern portion of North America and the world’s 13th largest country by area. It is bordered to the north by the United States of America (USA), to the south and west by the Pacific Ocean, to the southeast by Guatemala, Belize, UK and the Caribbean Sea and to the east by the Gulf of Mexico.

A great destination to most travelers who visit for the historical world heritage sites protected by UNESCO, beautiful architectural buildings, natural reserves, world class museums, blissful beaches, just to mention a few, Mexico is that loving place you should be putting on your bucket list in your next destination.

Depending on your nationality, entry to Mexico requires a visa to allow or permit you to their port of entry for your tour journey.  With the exemption of some countries like the United States of America (USA), Belize, Peru, Jamaica, Canada, France and all member countries from the European Union, they do not need a visa before entering Mexico. However, nationals or citizens who are holders of passport other than that of Mexico are required to apply for a visit visa before traveling to the Mexico.

Citizens or passport holders for instance Nigerians, Ghanaians, Russians, Pakistanis, Indian Nationals, Turkish, South African residents, Haitian, Moroccans, and so on should meet the Mexican visa requirements before  planning their travels.

What are the Mexican visa requirements?

The general requirements for the Mexican visa for the purpose of tourism, business, short trips and all stay duration not more than 180 days include the following:

  • Mexico Visa Application Form.

First of all the Mexico visa requirements is the applicant obtaining a visa form from the Mexican embassy in their home country or downloading the forms from online through their official website.

On the Mexican visa application form, the applicant will provide his or her personal details, marital status, residential address, employment status and answer some questionnaires about their past travel history and reason for their visit to Mexico.

The applicant after completing the form will sign and make a separate completion for all accompanying minors.

  • A valid passport or other travel documents

The mandatory document needed for a Mexico visa is a valid passport or other travel document. The passport must have been issued in the last ten years and have at least six months validity from the time you enter Mexico. In the passport also should be some blank pages at least one, where the consular would affix the visa sticker.

An attached photocopy of the bio-data page of the passport is also needful for the Mexican visa requirements.

  • Passport-size pictures.

Another Mexican visa requirement which is mandatory is a passport sized photograph of the applicant. The photo which should be colored must captured within six month of applying for the visa and should meet the Mexican specifications.

The Mexican visa photo requirements are at the dimensions of 35 mm x 45 mm, taken on a plain or white background with no coverings on the face like glasses or a heardgear or a hat.

  • Employment status documents.

Another part of the Mexican visa requirements is also submitting proof of employment status.

If the applicant is employed, a letter other words No Objection Certificate (NOC) from his or her employer stating their position in the company, the time they will be absent, and that they do not object to your absence.

    For students, a letter from an educational institution where the applicant is affiliated to must be obtained and attached, confirming their year of enrollment and providing details of your course.

    If self-employed, the applicant may submit their business registration documents including tax returns certificates, investment certificates, property deeds, and all relevant documents to their application.

  • Bank or financial statement

This is the important document needed when applying for Mexico visa. The financial statement of bank statement is a proof that the applicant is very sufficient in terms of finance and that they would be able to cater for their entire travel expenses and duration in Mexico.

By demonstrating sufficiency of financial means to cater the trip, the applicant should attach a bank statements from the last three months, last three payslips along with a letter from your employer stating their full name, nationality, passport number, the time they have been employed, their position and their salaries including all deductions.

In the case of the applicant being sponsored by someone to Mexico, they must attach an original invitation or sponsorship letter, which states the applicant’s full name, the company’s name and registration, what activity the applicant will be doing in Mexico, and an estimated period of the trip, photocopy of the ID of the person signing the letter and bank statements from the last 12 months of the company sponsoring you.

  • Proof of accommodation (Hotel Reservation)

A hotel reservation booked in the name the applicant will have to be attached to the application. If the applicant will be staying with a friend in Mexico, the house of address of the host and an ID or resident permit attached to the application.

  • Booked return travel ticket.

An Itinerary showing the intended departure and arrival dates and the routes of the flight should accompany the application. The flight itinerary is a dummy ticket, that can be obtain from airline companies for visa application purpose and once visa is issued, then the confirmation is done.

  • Payment of the approved visa fees

The approved visa fee must be paid and the receipt attached to the application. The visa fee is non-refundable and cost $48.00 per application.

Payment can be paid at an in house bank at the embassy or through at approved payment channel instructed by the embassy.

 How long does it take to get a Mexican visa?

Successful applicant who meet the required documents for the Mexican visa application would be required to schedule an interview with the Embassy and upon compliance, 10 days after submission a visa approval should be expected.
