HOW TO APPLY FOR YOUR BIOMETRIC GHANAIAN PASSPORT

Before one can travel out of the country, passport is the mandatory document required to get entry into any country. It shows that you are a Ghanaian citizen and as such provides protection to the holder in a foreign country. Have you ever come across a middleman or a connection man trying to assist you with a Ghanaian passport? How about the cost involve? Expensive right, It could also be a fake one.

Applying for the biometric Ghanaian passport needs not to be stressful and tedious thanks to technology and digitization, you can do the application on your smart phone and laptop wherever you are by following the procedures below;

The application is in three categories namely; First. time applicants, existing user applicant and lost or damaged passport applicant. But I am writing this article for the sake of first time applicants. You need the following documents birth certificate, passport picture, a valid identification card, prove of profession and there we go.

  • Visit the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration portal application. Passport.mfa.gov.gh

Click sign up or New user registration, here we can sign up by clicking on the Government of Ghana portal, we will be directed to the portal once we click on this website. Ghana.gov.  Fill in your personal details to sign up.

Click ‘’Continue’’ after successfully completing your sign up process. A one- time pin (OTP) will be sent to your phone number provided while signing up. Use the temporal pin (OTP) to verify your account and click authorize to redirect you back to Passport.mfa.gov.gh portal. Your account from Ghana.gov has automatically been linked here where we are going to do the passport application.

  • Let us purchase the passport form from by clicking on ‘’Make payment’’. This is where we specify the type of service whether Expedite or Regular service and the number of pages in the books. The expedite service is normally expensive depending on how priority your application is.  Also the regular number of pages is the 32 pages but the more the pages, the higher the price. Kindly go by the normal process if you are not in haste. Let us fill in our personal details. Remember the name you provide will appear on the passport form and once submitted, it can’t be changed so do well to check for corrections and errors before submitting.
  • Next click on make payment. Choose your payment system whether mobile money, visa/master card etc. input the mobile money number or the card details, confirm the amount for payment and approve payment purchase by entering the wallet pin. After successful approval, your passport forms will be released in to your portal in a form of serial number.
  • Open the forms from your dashboard by clicking on the serial number and upload your passport picture.
  • Fill in your personal information, state your marital status and occupation.
  • Give details of the mandatory document. This is your birth certificate, provide details about where it was issued, date and the certificate number.
  • Provide another supporting national identity details. This ID documents can also be in the form of Voter’s ID card, Ghana card, Health insurance and any recognized identity card.
  • Provide your phone number, residential address, house number and digital address.
  • Provide educational information. If application has no formal education, that portion can be left blank.
  • Provide evidence of citizenship. Here the applicant will have to provide details of parents and grandparents, their hometown, residential address and phone numbers. If any of them is deceased, you can still provide details of them, where they lived and specify they are deceased.
  • Applicant will provide two guarantors. These guarantors must be relatives but not parents or witness, who will be contacted in case of any emergency. State their full names, residential and business address, their occupation and telephone numbers.
  • Finally the application will have to be witnessed by a person in a category of a clergy, officer in the Ghana Armed Forces, Head of an educational institution, civil servant, commissioner for oath, a person from a recognize registered organization. Details of full name, occupation, residential and business address, telephone numbers and e-mail address will have to be provided and the application printout signed and stamped.
  • Review the information you provided to check and correct all errors and spelling mistakes and submit application. Remember details provided once submitted cannot be corrected and must be duly checked before submission.
  •  Check for available interview date from the calendar to book for appointment with your choice of Passport Application Center(PAC) across the region and do a printout of your application submitted.
  •  On the appointment date, go along with the original copies of the documents provided in filling the forms and the application print out duly stamped and signed by the witness. The interview will base on your information provided and any discrepancy will render your application being rejected and offense punishable by law.
