Annually on 6th March, it is marked as a national holiday in Ghana to commemorate the national heroes led by Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah to attain Independence from the British in 1957.

The celebration is marked by Government officials, military personnel, civil servnts, workers, students and so on, gathering at the Black Star Square or the Independence Square to parade and march past for the celebration signaling the official transition to Independence.

This year’s celebration was out of the norm due to the global pandemic (covid-19) the world is battling with and as a measure taken against the spread of the virus, it was held virtually. Marking the 64th Independence celebration, the president of the nation, Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo-Addo together with some Government Officials and military personnel in their regalia gathered in the Flagstaff house to celebrate the virtual version.
