Dal or Dhal is a delicious vegetarian or protein food from the Indian cuisines which is very easy or quick to prepare in instant pot blender. The flavor, thickness and the taste is what you should be getting prepared to see and taste.
What is Dal soup made of ?
Dhal or Dal Soup is an Indian soup that is very healthy and rich cuisine that is prepared from ingredients in an instant pot blender. Dal is a word used both for any type of split legume (lentils, split peas, etc.) as well as the spiced Indian lentil soup that is often made with them.
Preparation of Indian Dal can be made with different types of lentils such as toor dal (pigeon peas), moong dal (mung beans), masoor dal (red lentils or brown lentils) and chana dal (yellow split peas). However, all of them taste great, healthy and vegetarian friendly as they are prepared with veggies only.
Ingredients
Dhal preparation vary from region to region and every household have their own way or ingredients used in the cooking of the but what we are going to use in our preparation are the following ingredients;
- 3 table spoon of masoor dal (red or brown lentils)
- 3 table spoon of moong dal (mung beans)
- 2 table spoon of toor dal (pigeon peas)
- 1 inch ginger
- 2 clove garlic
- 1 tomato (chopped)
- 1 carrot (chopped)
- ¼ tsp turmeric
- ½ tsp salt
- 2 cup water
- ½ tsp pepper powder
- 1½ cup water (adjust consistency)
- 2 tbsp coriander (finely chopped)
How to prepare Dhal or Dal (Recipes)
To begin the preparation of your delicious Dhal Soup, these are the steps to follow to get it done correctly.
- Put 3 tablespoon of masoo dal, 3 tablespoon of moong dal and 2 tbsp toor dal in a bowl.
- Rinse the ingredients well and soak for 30 minutes.
- Transfer the soaked dal to a pressure cooker.
- Add 1 inch ginger, 2 clove garlic, ¼ tsp turmeric, ½ tsp salt and 2 cup water.
- Cover with the lid and allow to pressure cook for 2 whistles on medium flame.
- Cool completely and transfer to the blender after the pressure releases
- Now blend your cooked ingredients to a smooth paste.
- Take the veggie dal paste to a large kadai.
- Add a half tablespoon of pepper powder and 1 and half cup water, adjusting consistency as required.
- Mix well and simmer for 5 minutes or until the flavors are well absorbed.
- Add 2 tbsp coriander and your dhal soup is ready to serve.
Dhal can be served with bread or rice. The soup is sometimes served, as a meal and sometimes served as part of a meal along with curries, chutneys, and other dishes.
