Finland’s New Schengen Visa rules: Impact On Indians

Finland's new Schengen Visa rules (5)

Starting on January 1, individuals who want to visit Finland and need a Schengen visa will now have to supply additional financial information in order to be eligible. According to the most recent sources, Finland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has put new rules into effect that may impact short-term visitors applying for Schengen visas.

This significant modification entails higher financial requirements: visitors must now provide proof of at least 50 euros for each day they spend in Finland. This is a noteworthy rise of 20 euros over the prior sum, or a considerable 66% gain. If reports are to be believed, the country’s rising cost of living has been blamed for the adjustment.

A Schengen visa is important since it serves as a travel document for people who plan to enter the Schengen area temporarily or on a short-term basis. This area includes many European states, including twenty-three of the twenty-seven members of the European Union, as well as the neighboring countries of Norway, Switzerland, Iceland, and Liechtenstein.

To correspond with the increased financial requirement, Finland has also implemented a new sponsorship or lodging program. A sponsorship document, which must be submitted with the rest of the visa application, will be required of hosts.

The purpose of this legislation is to improve the financial arrangements for persons who are looking to stay in Finland for a brief period of time in terms of accountability and transparency. Notably, starting in March, holders of a valid visa will be able to travel to two more countries in Europe: Bulgaria and Romania, as part of the Schengen area expansion.

This development expands the range of destinations that holders of Schengen visas can visit. It’s also crucial to remember that the cost of a Schengen visa is 80 EUR, especially for Indian citizens.

But take note that children under the age of six are completely exempt from paying the Schengen visa charge. Families that are traveling with younger members can take advantage of the 40 EUR reduced visa charge for children ages six to twelve. These cost schedules are part of the broader system that controls the issuing of Schengen visas to different age groups.
