I love to spend my vacation on the countryside where I can have a complete feel of nature because even with all our technology and the inventions that make modern life so much easier than it once was, it took just one big natural disaster to wipe all that away and remind us that, here on Earth, we’re still at the mercy of nature. I had a complete nature feel when I visited the Green Ranch at the Lake Bosomtwe in the Ashanti region of Ghana.

As I use to see them single handedly at the beaches, little did I know there could be Ranchers or a horse ranch near me just like the Texas, New York, Montana and where they have ranch comprising of different kinds of horses such as the flying horse etc.
Horse ranch is a facility which provides for the commercial use of horses, donkeys and other than livestock animal husbandry operations which features horseback riding, camping and other such outdoor activities. At the Green ranch, I had the best of treat and once in a lifetime experience taking a tutorial of a horse ride through the nearby towns around the Lake Bosomtwe.
The Green Ranch is a horse ranch in charged by a family who moved from Europe to set up when felt in love with nature on their first visit to the Bosomtwe Lake. The Green ranch, i can boldly say is the best of its kind in West Africa giving horseback riding endeavors in the serene natural township of Abono around the Lake Bosomtwe.
Traveling a distance of about 238 kilometers from Accra, I landed at the entrance of a peaceful and absolute environment in a village where the green ranch is located. Arriving at the Green Ranch, I was welcomed by the reception to cool off with some assorted natural beverages while the owner of the ranch Mrs. Elodie prepares horses for our ride.
While sipping that juicy drink, I tour around the ranch and saw some nice calm horses, different kind of colorful domestic birds, the shades from the trees really made me feel like I was in paradise.
In less than 15 minutes, my white horse was ready out of the 9 total numbers of local horses in the Green ranch and the ride training started. Before the riding, Mrs Elodie gave me the code and instructions for ride. Her professionalism and experience really made the instruction very simple for a first timer or novice like me but before then we had to feed the animal from the bush then the ride.
We started the ride from the entrance of the ranch through a farm, to the bank of the lake and then to the nearby towns while we had some conversations. Though Elodie is not from the place but the people see her to part of them and exchange greetings with anyone we came into contact with.
In an hour later, we stopped for the horses to feed for some time while I took the lead in our returning. It was such an interesting and amazing experience that I wished never came to an end. We got back to the ranch in less than thirty minutes since there was a short cut road to the ranch. I then I took my bottle water which had been giving to me by the instructor to quench my thirst as I was tasty and later sent the horse to their ranch.
There are natural accommodations for people who would love to spend the night ranging from beautifully handcrafted rooms, rustic cabin with a mezzanine, dormitories and so on depending on the guest’s preference. In terms of food, you are sorted as vegetarian meals made with strictly fresh and mostly organic produce from the farms and local market, awaits at the restaurant.
