Lufthansa is one of the leading airlines in the world. They have airlines parading the skies of almost every continent. They were not left out in the recent strike action of most staff of various airlines. Hence, they had no choice but to provide the necessary atmosphere for their staff to demand better remuneration from their bosses.
The head of communication at Lufthansa made it known that, it was necessary for them to cancel all flights on Wednesday due to an ongoing strike action. He went on by saying that, the strike action by their main staff union Verdi has an unabated impact on the operations and sustainability of the airline. He again enumerated that the airline sadly had to cancel all flights in Germany. These were important flights with passengers waiting to board planes to Frankfurt and Munich.
The majority of these flights happened on Wednesday with passengers fuming and criticizing the heads of the various individual units of the airline. The airline made it known that, it will be highly difficult to assure passengers of a possible flights as the summer holidays draws near.
The spokesperson for Lufthansa said that, following the trend of previous strikes by staff, it will take quite a long time to fully restart operations. Hence, passengers should exercise restrains for the mean time. He further enumerated that, the Wednesday strike will create discrepancies and cancellations through to Friday.
The number of flights which were and would be cancelled were made known to the public. At the Frankfurt airport, a total of 678 flights must be cancelled due to indefinite strike action by staff. Out of this, 678 flights a total of 32 will be cancelled on Tuesday and 646 will be cancelled on Wednesday. The public was angry at this huge numbers and the spokesperson made it known that, they should help mount pressure on the authorities to grant the desires of the striking staff to them. Also, it is estimated that, a total of 92,000 passengers will be affected due to the cancellation of flights.
He further explained that, at the Munich airport, a whopping number of 345 must be cancelled due to strike action and inability of operations to be carried on without the striking staff and out of the 345 flights to be cancelled, 15 would be cancelled on Tuesday and 330 cancelled on 330 on Wednesday.
Sadly, an estimated number of 42,000 passengers will be affected due to the strike action. These numbers have been provided to tourists and travelers to acquit themselves with the recent cancellations in the tourism industry.
The airline which prides itself to be the face of German airline industry is Lufthansa, explained that, rescheduling the bookings of passengers whose flights were cancelled will take a long time. The staff of Lufthansa belong to a union called Ver.di and the reason why they are striking is that, they are asking for 9.5 increase in wages. Thus, they also seek for a minimum wage of €350 which is equivalent to $368 monthly throughout the year. They stressed that, the staff usually do multiple jobs hence, they get tired easily. Their spokesperson also made it known that, they have been tremendous food shortages, a rise in inflation and a freeze on the salaries of all workers for a whopping three months.
The spokesperson further enumerated that, the strike has been arranged to start on Wednesday and partially end on Thursday. They want the management of the airline to treat their complaints with the needed urgency. This is the only way flights can be back on track; the spokesperson ended.
